Cherrybrook Rural Fire Brigade
50 Flamin'
Years
During the first fifty years from 1952 to 2002, the brigade attended many
bushfires, large and small, local to the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai District, in
surrounding areas, and as part of statewide task forces too numerous to list on
this page. The brigade has also been actively involved in a variety of other
incidents locally and statewide including local structure fires (particularly
prior to 1989), motor vehicle accidents (including a petrol tanker overturn),
flood assistance, and storm damage assistance.
For those that are interested in finding out more about the brigade’s history on
the topics mentioned on our history page
and further information on the brigade’s history of
social activities, field days, hazard reductions, training, fire prevention and
public education, a 160 page colour booklet was produced for the 50th
anniversary in 2002. The book gives incite into the highs and lows of the
brigades and gives a perspective on the brigade through the fond recollections
of a range of individuals during the fifty years, adding to recorded facts.
